Couple of notes on ubuntu on Hyper-V

Notes pertain to Ubuntu Server 8.04.

1. NIC should be set a legacy network adapter or ubuntu wont recognize it until you install Integration Components… an unnecessary pain. Ie. Add hardware-> legacy NIC and remove plain NIC that comes preconfigured.

2. Framebuffer = bad, drops performance a lot making for a very long install. On install F6-> add “fb=false”. After the install the FB stays off.

3. IC’s… With the server distro I see no need for this. Integration components provide mouse, video, NIC, and storage drivers. If I find the storage throughput lacking i may work on getting this to work. Without X11 neither the mouse nor working video is necessary.

Apache, Mysql, and php as well as bind and openssh are available through apt. Thanks Debian, great idea.

I’ve been indexed!!!!

Just noticed that Google has been indexing my server ever sinse I got the .com address. Rather than have it index apache’s directory list, I decided to toss up this Wordpress in a minimal config. No reason for the world to see my files in development, but i appreciate the effort Google.

So now, I can has blog. Maybe there’ll be more posts or maybe not. If this is the only post you see a year after the posted on date then I believe, dear reader, you have your answer.
